About The Course
About The Course
The Master in Arts, Health and Performance offers an engaging course with a unique blend of academic study and practice.
We know that lives are busy, so we have designed the course to be taught through a combination of intensive in person sessions, online interactive and self-directed teaching, as well as group and individual tutorials. Our course will equip you with highly employable skills and advanced knowledge to critically understand and navigate related fields both as an individual and in your professional role(s).
Why study Arts, Health, and Performance?
This multi-disciplinary Master’s course examines the potential of participatory arts, performance science and artistic practice to enhance health, wellbeing, education/training and performance. Theories, research and practice within disciplines of psychology, sociology, physiology and pedagogy will be related to participatory/inclusive and elite arts contexts.
There is engagement with research and practice throughout the course and there is an opportunity to develop a research project that can take different forms such as practice/performance-based, lab-based and/or written.
Students benefit from expertise, talks and workshops from clinicians, practitioners and artists as the Sidney De Hann Centre for Arts and Health and Centre for Practice Research in the Arts are part of the University and campus.
The Canterbury Campus offers a studio theatre, performance studios, studio-lab, music studios, a concert hall, a sports centre with fully equipped gym, and green areas and gardens.
The course is taught by a team of experienced academics and practitioners that have had professional careers in a related sector and/or are internationally recognised researchers in the field. A group of non-academic artists, partners and advisors also contribute to the delivery of the programme, in the forms of visiting talks, workshops and discussions, contributing to assignment briefs, and offering networking opportunities.
Our course is unique in that it is delivered alongside multiple degree routes in the broader Creative and Cultural Industries subject areas, which enables you to have a multi and interdisciplinary learning experience and meet and collaborate with a range of creative professionals.
Why study Arts, Health, and Performance at CCCU?
Canterbury is a cathedral city and a world heritage site. It offers a range of arts experiences with its theatres, galleries, museums, festivals, architecture and history. There are a number of arts participatory and community groups and professional companies resident in Kent, for example, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Cygnet School and Maria Aberg’s Projekt Europa are both resident at The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company is based in Ashford.
Canterbury is less than an hour away from London where there are larger theatres, galleries, museums, festivals and arts schools and companies.
